#AachenMooVe! - Innovative mobility and sustainability in Aachen
With the #AachenMooVe! project, the city of Aachen began a new chapter in environmentally friendly mobility and sustainable urban development. The aim was to make traffic in Aachen largely emission-free and thus make an important contribution to climate protection and improving the quality of life in the city.
Structural realignment of urban mobility
The focus of #AachenMooVe! was the comprehensive redesign of urban mobility by merging various innovative sub-projects. The largest of these in financial terms involved the expansion and improvement of the pedestrian and cycle path network in order to offer attractive and safe alternatives to motorized private transport. This included creating new cycle routes and improving road safety in order to promote cycling as an everyday means of transportation.
Easing the transition to sustainable forms of mobility
The project significantly increased mobility options: Through mobile stations, seven secure bicycle parking facilities (so-called bike stations) and the expansion of urban cargo bike rental. New pedelec rental stations were set up in the Aachen city region. In the mobility management sub-project, various target groups (administrations, businesses and citizens) received information and offers to adapt their mobility behavior.
Another core element of #AachenMooVe! was the promotion of electromobility and the implementation of emission-free urban city logistics. The use of electric vehicles and cargo bikes for the delivery of parcels in the city center was intended to reduce traffic and thus improve air quality. This also included providing the necessary infrastructure, such as charging and parking facilities, to promote broad acceptance and use of these environmentally friendly means of transport.
A joint commitment to the future
#AachenMooVe! is a good example of successful cooperation between the city, the surrounding municipalities and a large number of partners. The commitment of all those involved made it possible to find and implement innovative solutions for sustainable mobility. The various sub-projects not only made an important contribution to environmental protection, but were also a driving force for the local economy and the creation of new jobs. Numerous measures were initiated that will be continued after the end of the project, such as the mobility transition in the entire StädteRegion Aachen, the mobility transition campaign "aachenbewegt" and various construction measures in cycling and pedestrian traffic.
