Phoenix site - pioneering technology location
When it became clear that the former coal and steel city of Dortmund needed a new perspective, the city worked with partners to develop a sustainable concept that would turn Dortmund into an innovative living space. PHOENIX is a key project in this regard: the former industrial site, which is only five kilometers from the city center, has been transformed into a pioneering technology location. From the outset, this structural change was supported with ERDF funding.
One of the aims of the commercial redevelopment of the site was to put the listed buildings, halls and facilities of the former blast furnace plant to a new, valuable use, to integrate them into the overall picture as landmarks and thereby strengthen the location's profile in supra-regional marketing.
Integrated location
Work, leisure, recreation: in addition to Westfalenpark and the Rombergpark botanical garden, PHOENIX West has also created another attractive recreational area for Dortmund. The 60-hectare PHOENIX Park connects the area of the PHOENIX West blast furnace plant with the former steelworks site, the PHOENIX Lake. The resulting quality of stay enhances the working environment and at the same time offers a high quality of leisure for local residents.
