IN|DIE RegionWestphalia - Competence region for green production
IN|DIE RegionWestfalen is a regional network of companies, universities and scientific institutions. It supports small and medium-sized companies in making their production more climate-friendly, digital and efficient.
Challenges for industry in Westphalia
Many companies in Westphalia are showing great interest in sustainable and innovative production, but are faced with the question of how they can actually shape the change: Which technologies are suitable? Where are potential partners? What funding opportunities are available? While a lot of knowledge on green materials, energy efficiency and digitalization is already available in research, the transfer into practice is often still too slow.
Shaping structural change together
The challenges are enormous: global instability, disrupted supply chains, climate change and increasing competitive pressure require a major rethink. Against this backdrop, the cities of Dortmund, Bochum, Hamm, Hagen and the district of Unna have joined forces to form RegionWestfalen. Together, they want to take advantage of the opportunities presented by structural change and pool their expertise. Their aim is to make the region's production industry resilient, climate-friendly and fit for the future.
Strengthening the region with innovation and networking
Westphalia is a traditionally strong production location with a dense network of universities, institutes and research facilities. The project uses this potential to support companies in implementing green and innovative solutions, strengthen technology transfer and make the region fit for the future as an industrial location.
From idea to practice
Concrete projects on site make the change visible. 28 GreenSchecks have already been awarded at the Dortmund, Bochum and Hagen sites to promote green production. Numerous events, trade fair appearances, business speed dating and specialist events are taking the project to a wider audience. Makerthons, technology workshops and GreenBoosts are planned for the coming years to promote networking. The bundling of regional technological expertise, cooperation between science and industry and targeted measures to promote young talent are intended to make Westphalia a region of excellence for green production that is visible throughout Europe.
